22 female and virgin, is this normal?

I'm attractive, but I'm socially inept. I grew up struggling from low self esteem. My mother was very abusive, she was very critical of me and my appearance and always compared me to other kids. I didn't have the bond with my mother like other people have. I have very low self confidence, and I don't know why but it is very difficult for me to deepen a relationship, I'm just very socially awkward and whenever I tell a guy that I'm still virgin, he just looks at me like I'm a freak. Being a virgin at 22 somehow makes people think badly of me.
